Newborn Security Instructions For Parents

Your Baby’s Safety

Your baby’s safety is a priority at the Cherese Mari Laulhere BirthCare Center at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. Safety Tips You can help by following these important steps: • Hand hygiene. • Never leave your baby alone or unsupervised in your room. • Place your baby’s crib on the side of your bed that is opposite the door. This allows you to see visitors and hospital sta ff as they approach your baby. • If you need to be apart from your baby for any length of time, please contact your nurse. • Feel free to question anyone who comes into your room. • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. • 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. For the safety of you and your f amily, no more than two visitors are allowed in a room at one time. Healthy siblings (brothers and sisters) are welcome to visit if they have adult supervision. From 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. , we observe “Cuddle Time” to allow for the mother , infant and primary partner in care to rest and bond. Visitation Observe visitation hours and guidelines. Visiting hours for those other than your partner in care are: If you’re unsure of anyone who comes into your room or asks about your baby — even if he or she is wearing a hospital uniform — press your call light to check with the nurse ’s station. Be sure you know the nurses who are assigned to care for you and your baby. A staff member will notify you in advance if your baby needs to leave the room for any tests. Nursing shifts change at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Around those times, your off going nurse will introduce your oncoming nurse to you. At this time, your two nurses will do a bedside handoff report in your room. Get to Know the Hospital Staff
