THE NEW FATHER/PARTNER As a new father or partner, you may also experience some emotional changes. It’s natural for the combination of the new baby, the stress of the past 9 months, and your new sense of responsibility to take their toll. Your responsibilities have changed and you could be feeling left out or simply overwhelmed. In fact, 1 out of 4 partners will experience a type of postpartum depression called paternal postnatal depression . The smartest thing you can do is to talk openly with your partner about how to manage all the new responsibilities. Communicating openly will make things easier for both of you. If you feel you are having too much trouble adjusting, talk to a professional about getting some help and support. You are an important member of this family, and you need to take good care of yourself, too.
