Day 2 Tips: Your baby may want to eat every hour for several feedings in a row. This is called “cluster feeding” and is normal. Baby may also be awake at night and want to be held to sleep. Continue to put baby skin-to-skin as much as possible before and after feedings. 1. Signs of an Effective LATCH: All of the nipple and as much of the areola as possible is in baby’s mouth, baby’s lips are flanged outward, baby has long-jaw movements, baby stays on the breast, and you are not in pain. You may hear your baby swallow. 2. Signs Baby is Getting Enough to Eat: 2 wet diapers, 2 bowel movements, baby relaxes after feeding, baby may fall asleep or let go of the breast. You may hear swallowing once your milk is in greater supply.
