Baby’s Car Seat
BEFORE YOUR BABY IS DISCHARGED Bring your assembled car seat into the hospital as soon as possible. Do not wait until the day of discharge. It is important to practice placing your baby into the car seat to ensure a proper fit. Before your baby can be discharged home, the nurse must verify: • You have a rear-facing car seat to use in your vehicle • You can properly position your baby into the car seat
CAN HOSPITAL STAFF PUT MY BABY INTO THE CAR SEAT? • No. Hospital staff are not certified technicians. They are not permitted to place your baby in the car seat or to place the car seat in the vehicle. Refer to your car seat manufacturer’s instructions on how to properly install the car seat.
Georgia Law requires that all children under the age of 8 use a car seat. Never place a rear-facing car seat in the passenger side of the front seat with an active air bag. Always use the rear seat.
