Tips for Preventing Falls

• Wear nonslip socks • Keep your hospital bed in the lowest position with the side rails up • Keep the nurse call bell close and items you frequently need within easy reach • Don’t fall asleep in the chair — If you are tired, lie back down • Keep the path from your bed to the bathroom clear

GAS Gas discomfort or pain after a

cesarean delivery is common. Many things can cause gas discomfort: the anesthetic used during surgery, pain

medications taken after surgery, and air entering your abdomen during surgery. Moving as much as possible is the key to reducing gas. Don’t be embarrassed by passing gas. Ask your health care provider for their recommendations on dealing with gas. To decrease discomfort from gas: • Walk once you are cleared to get out of bed • Drink plenty of water • Change your position in bed often • Lie on your left side • Avoid carbonated drinks • Do not use a straw • Rock • Avoid foods that give you gas • Eat foods high in fiber

Foods high in fiber helps to decrease the discomforts from gas.
