BABY’S CLINICAL CARE ROUTINES

BABY’S CLINICAL CARE TEAM Your baby will be cared for by a team of medical and nursing professionals that specialize in newborn care. Your baby will either be cared for by their private pediatrician or by one of Northside’s pediatric specialists. Our newborn team includes: pediatricians, neonatologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, lactation specialists, audiologists, patient care technicians, respiratory therapists, and a NICU rehab feeding team. Many of our team members are nationally or internationally certified. Your baby will be examined daily by either a pediatric doctor or nurse practitioner who will provide orders specific to your baby’s care and discharge.

Your baby’s vital signs include assessment of their heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. Your baby’s vital signs will be taken every 4 hours until they are

24 hours old and then routinely each shift. Some newborns may have their vital signs assessed more frequently based on their individual needs and pediatric orders. Your baby will also have multiple health screenings while in the hospital. During bedside shift report, your nurses will also discuss your baby’s progress — how well they are feeding, their weight, vital signs, and special procedures. Be sure to listen and participate in shift report.
