A New Beginning

Hot Car Safety

• Never leave your baby in a car even if the air conditioner is running and you plan to come back quickly. • Always check the back

seat of the car so you don’t forget your baby. It is easy to be distracted, especially for a new parent.

Look Before You Lock

Your car heats up faster and gets hotter than you might think. Remember “Look before you lock,” so you never forget your baby is with you. Children’s body temperatures heat up 3-5 times faster than adults. Set an alarm on your phone or electronic device to remind you when your child should be dropped off. Make a plan with your child care provider and have them call you if your baby/child is even a few minutes late.

Put something you need in the back seat where the baby is. Something like:

Your cellphone

Your purse or bag

Your left shoe

Your work ID badge

REMINDER – Infants can overheat and die quickly when left in a hot car.
